Watch It? Track It.

API

Everything on Watch It? Track It. is published as static JSON files you can download directly. There's no API key and no request format to learn: every record is a file at a predictable URL.

All files are served from:

How it works

  • Each record has a base.json with its language-neutral data, and one file per language (en.json, de.json, …) with its names and descriptions.
  • Records are addressed by type and TheTVDB id. Show and movie pages use slugs; the slug index turns a slug into an id.
  • Files change in place when a record is edited on the site or updated from TheTVDB (daily). Send If-None-Match with a file's last ETag to check for changes cheaply.
  • Image paths are relative: prefix them with the base URL. Every image has a full-size version and a thumbnail.
  • Records that were removed stay published with "deleted": true.
  • You can call it from anywhere, including browser code on your own site: every file is served with Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *.

Licensing

Use of the data is licensed as follows:

  • Non-commercial projects and startups: free.
  • Profitable commercial projects, company net worth up to $1M: $100 per month.
  • Profitable commercial projects, company net worth over $1M: $1,000 per month.
