API
Search is a static index too: about 7,000 small files that together cover every name of every show, movie and person, in every language. A query needs one of them.
Files

Looking up a query
- Read
v1/search/manifest.jsonfor the current build id. - Read
v1/search/{build}/tree.json. It never changes for a build, so fetch it once. - Normalize the query: lowercase it, remove accents and punctuation. Look it up by its longest word that isn't a stopword.
- Walk the tree with that word to find its file: a bucket in
l/or, if the word ends exactly at a split prefix, a summary ins/. File names are the hex of the prefix's UTF-8 bytes. - Keep entries where every query word starts some word of the name. Put names that start with the whole query first, then sort by popularity.
- Apply
v1/search/recent.json: it lists records changed since the build. Drop the index's entries for those records and use these instead. It changes as records are edited, so add a query string that changes every few minutes (?w=plus the current 5-minute window) to get a fresh copy.
Entries
Each entry is an array:
| Position | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | string | Record type. |
| 1 | number | Record id. |
| 2 | string | The name that matched, in whatever language it is. |
| 3 | number | Rank within its type: 1,000,000 is the most popular. |
| 4 | string | Record slug. |
| 5 | number | null | Year, for titles. |
| 6 | string | null | Thumbnail path. |

console.log(await search("breaking bad"))The index is rebuilt daily. A build's files never change, so cache them as long as you like; only the manifest and recent.json change.
